See no Evil Oni is named “Kiran.” It’s name origins from Hindi and Sanskirt meaning “beam of light.” In order to see in darkness there has to be light.
The history of Speak, See, Hear no evil monkeys comes from Japan. The origin of saying comes from India, Hinduism to Buddhism, and finally to to Chinese Tao/Daoism.
“非禮勿視” a Chinese proverb by Confucius meaning “Look not at what is contrary to propriety.” I modern terms, “Do not Look at what will disrespect you.” All of the monkeys tells of self-reflection of one’s own actions, and what one deems as evil or good. What one sees may not always be the truth. Seeing isn’t always believing. You can’t just rely on one part of your senses.
Why Oni? From the word “鬼” or “gui” Oni means Ghost/demon. One, to match the Oni masks, and two, making this silly pun of “Oni U;” because only you can determine what is good or bad in your life. Sometimes it can be the latter. Did you notice their hands? They are also signing their respective actions. The color of the jackets shows the duality of life. Where there is good, there is evil, and where there is evil there is also good- the yin and yang, the black and white.
