Redrawing Chun-Li: How EVO 2026 Inspired Me to Revisit a 2021 Favorite
Some artwork stays with you. This Chun-Li piece has been sitting in my portfolio since 2021, and for a long time I still struggled with some anatomical issues. But it was what I knew for the time. It wasn't until I started preparing for EVO 2026 that I looked at it again — really looked — and saw everything I wanted to fix.
Chun Li Spring Blossoms
The anatomy was the first thing that stood out. Issues I couldn't see back then became obvious now, which honestly is one of the best signs of growth as an artist. So I did what any artist with unfinished business does: I went back and built her again.
The biggest change beyond the anatomy was the color temperature. The original art work had a pop art feel to it, but I like the current one, which had a softer, pinker feel. I also leaned further into the cherry blossom petals surrounding her. It felt right for Chun-Li. Spring energy. Blooming strength. Her name even carries that meaning.
The full progress session is on Twitch if you want to watch the whole process from rough sketch to final render. There's something satisfying about watching the lines tighten up in real time.
EVO 2026 feels like the perfect reason to bring her back and this time… she's ready!
